Basic Troubleshooting
If you are having problems with Dupin please check the following:
Sluggishness
- Use the "Limit Dupe Groups to..." setting to return fewer dupe groups per session.
- Work with fewer tracks at a time using the Selection Window or Search.
- Temporarily disable "Live Updating" for Smart Playlists. Otherwise, Smart Playlists will want to update everytime there is a track change/deletion.
Spinning Beach Balls
A "spinning beach ball" most likely means that an extensive operation occurring in the background is preventing access to Dupin's interface. Dupin will seem unresponsive. You may see this during the sorting phase of "Get Duplicates" or when filtering. It is OK. Dupin will not crash. Do not interfere with Dupin while the beach ball is present. When the operation is finished, the beach ball will disappear.
Please mail support@dougscripts.com with any details if Dupin crashes consistently.
Location of Files
iTunes, Dupin, and even the system expect certain files to be located in the [username]/Music/iTunes/ folder. Do not move or alias the "iTunes Music Library.xml" or "iTunes Library" files from this location. In fact, according to Apple, you should not move or alias any component of [username]/Music/iTunes/. (You can legally re-locate the "iTunes Media" (or older "iTunes Music") folder provided you tell iTunes where it is in iTunes' Preferences > Advanced > General. And you can create additional libraries by holding down the Option key when starting-up iTunes. Any other non-standard "homebrew" arrangement may cause difficulties.)
To verify the location of the support files and designated iTunes Media folder for the currently loaded library, you can use Dupin's Library Profile..." tool in the Help menu.
External and Network Drives
Before running a Purge, make sure the external or network drive containing your music files is mounted.
There are known issues regarding the inability to Trash items from a USB drive connected through Time Capsule.
FileVault
Although very unusual, it is possible that having FileVault active may disrupt or inhibit some functions of Dupin.
The "Unable to proceed!" Error
If while during "Get Duplicates" you see the "Unable to proceed!" error box, make a note of the text of the error and email it to support@dougscripts.com. This is a general error message that indicates something is preventing the accurate sorting of tracks.
