Dupin and Cloud Music Library Tracks

Cloud Music Library (formerly iTunes Match) works in conjunction with iCloud to provide access to your Music library from all of your computers and devices. Cloud Music Library is a paid service that is available to computers running OS X 10.7 or later and iTunes 10.5.1 or later and devices runnning iOS 5 or later.

Presumably you have a basic understanding of how Cloud Music Library works if you are using it.

"Cloud" tracks in the Music library are designated with a type of "Remote". "Remote" tracks do not have an associated local file and are typically Cloud Music Library tracks. "Remote" is also the designation for un-downloaded iTunes Store purchases.

Third-party applications, such as Dupin, are not permitted to delete tracks from the cloud. Only you, the user, can confirm the deletion of tracks from the cloud or iTunes Store via the Music app.

Tracks that Dupin detects as "Remote" will be colored blue—or light blue if designated as a non-Keeper.

Important considerations regarding Dupin

Apple has not provided a means for third-party applications to accurately detect if Cloud Music Library is enabled or to detect the "Cloud Status" of Remote tracks.

If Dupin detects "Remote" tracks in the Music library during its Purge procedure, it will not delete them (it can't). Instead, it will copy these tracks to a playlist in Music named "*** Dupin Purge Tracks ***". These tracks must be manually batch-deleted as described below. Fortunately this is a quick and easy procedure:

Deleting Cloud Music Library tracks after a Purge:

  1. During a Purge operation, Dupin will copy "cloud"/Remote tracks to a new playlist it creates in Music named ***Dupin Purge Tracks***.
  2. After the Purge operation has completed, select the ***Dupin Purge Tracks*** playlist in the Music app.
  3. While the ***Dupin Purge Tracks*** playlist is selected, on your keyboard, press Option-Delete (press and hold the "Option" key and press the "Delete" key). This is the shortcut for deleting the playlist and the tracks it contains from your Music library. Be sure to press the "Option" key (sometimes labeled the "Alt" key) and not the "Control" or "Command" key.
  4. Follow the prompts for deleting the playlist, deleting the tracks, and optionally Trashing the files and/or removing the files from the cloud.

The ***Dupin Purge Tracks*** playlist is re-created on each Purge operation. If you do not Option-Delete it after a Purge the tracks it contains will remain in the Music library.
