OpenSourceSaver
OpenSourceSaver is a screen saver that displays its own source. I got the idea for such a screen saver while at the Mozilla 1.0 release party at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco. In the club, accompanying the DJ was a large movie screen scrolling the Mozilla Source. Since watching the same source code over and over might get boring, you can also configure it to display source from any directory. So go check out the Mozilla tree and point this screen saver at it for inspiration.

Installation Intructions:
Copy the OpenSourceSaver.saver into either "/Library/Screen Savers" or "~/Library/Screen Savers" or "/Users/username/Library/Screen Savers"
Run the System Preferences application. Choose the OpenSourceSaver.
If you click on configure, you can adjust the speed of the scrolling and the size of the font

Known Issues:
  • If you change a binary file to something like myBinaryfile.txt and put it in the path that you choose to display code, the screen saver will try to display the data and just freeze.
  • If you change the preferences, the changees don't take effect right away in the preview pane. But they will show up when you click on "Test" or launch the Screen Saver


To Do:
  • Add preferences to choose what kind of file types it will display. If you can't wait add your own extensions and recompile yourself.
  • Any Suggestions?

  • Now you can adjust the screen saver display source code (or anything out want) from any directory. It recursively goes through the directory and displays the files.
  • Adjust the font and size
  • Adjust the color of the font
