Pagehand makes it easy to create fractions that are much prettier than the standard 1/2, 3/4, etc.
To make a pretty fraction, you should:
- reduce the font size of the numerator and denominator;
- raise the baseline of the numerator;
- use a fraction slash character rather than a text slash character;
- kern the components for proper horizontal spacing
Pagehand provides a simple tool that does these things for you.
The controls pictured above allow you to:
- enter the numerator and denominator values
- adjust the baseline and kerning of the numerator
- adjust the kerning of the denominator
- use a fraction slash or a text slash;
- use the current text font or the default system font
As you adjust the controls, the magnified preview updates to display the changes.
To insert a pretty fraction:
- 1. From the Insert menu choose Fraction...
- 2. Adjust the fraction using the controls pictured above.
- 3. Click the Insert button.
After you have inserted the fraction, you can continue to adjust it using the regular controls in the Character View palettes.
