Free Chart Geany

Free Chart Geany is an open source, smart, easy to install, easy-to-use, completely free and multiplatform graphical software that has been designed from the offset to act as an intuitive and feature-rich utility for stock market charting and technical analysis.

Features at a glance

Key features include stock charts, stock quotes, stock analysis, technical analysis indicators, support for stocks, indices, futures and mutual funds, one-click screenshots for charts, spreadsheet-like data manager, tab-based navigation for charts, as well as single file local storage.

Additionally, the software supports Trend Candle (Heikin-Ashi), Candle, Bar and Line charts, zoom in/out functionality, semi-logarithmic and linear price scaling, various time-frames (Day, Week, Month, Year), and support for downloading quotes from Google Finance and Yahoo Finance.

Supports a wide range of technical analysis indicators

Another important feature of the Free Chart Geany software is that it supports a wide range of technical analysis indicators, among which we can mention Bollinger Bands, Simple Moving Average, Parabolic SAR, Exponential Moving Average, Relative Strength Index, and MACD.

In addition, it supports a wide variety of CSV (Comma-Separated Values) formats, including those from Google Finance, Metastock 7, Metastock 8, Yahoo Finance, AMI Broker, as well as standard CSV files.

Furthermore, the application also supports several text and drawing objects, among which we can mention Fibonacci retracements, trailing text, labels, horizontal and vertical lines, as well as trend lines.

Under the hood and supported operating systems

While taking a look under the hood of the Free Chart Geany project, we’ve noticed that the application is written in the C++ programming language and uses the Qt GUI toolkit for its graphical user interface.

Being written in Qt, means that Free Chart Geany is a cross-platform software that has been successfully tested on numerous GNU/Linux distributions, as well as some Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows flavors. It runs on 32 and 64-bit computer platforms.
